How many coats should I do?
Your floor should get a total of 3 coats of floor finish.
Coat 1: This first coat needs to be a sealer. You will want to use a sealer from Berger-Seidle known as Aqua Choice FlexSealer for the first coat. Sealers a very similar to finish. They act as primer for the finish coats.
Coat 2 & 3: These coats should be a finish like Berger-Seidle Green Star.
How much finish do I need?
Every gallon of finish (or sealer) will cover about 400 square feet of flooring. You need to get enough sealer to do one coat, and enough finish to do 2 coats. Here is the equation.
(Square feet/ 400)X Number of coats.
If you have 800 square feet of flooring the math is as follows:
Sealer: (800/400)X1= 2 Gallons to do one coat.
Finish: (800/400)X2= 4 Gallons to do two coats.
What should I use to apply it?
Use a 9" roller on a 5' extension pole with a 3/8" nap microfiber roller cover. We recommend using the manufactures roller cover that comes with the finish. We sell them as well. You will want to get one for each coat you are applying.
You can cut in the edges with a chip brush.
What's the difference between sealer and finish?
That's a great question! Think of sealer as the primer and finish as the paint. The sealer seals up the wood grain and gets the surface ready for the finish coats to go down.
